Last Ride of the Ridgeline

Seriously being in it.

This is my last Ridgeline Tour post but not my last blog. The Ridgeline is leaving and in September 2022 I receive a Rivian R1T. The Ridgeline was awesome and like a friend. During its 105,000 miles with me it has driven every mile of I 80 from New York to San Francisco. Last August, I took my last trip in the Ridgeline and fittingly it began and ended with a long stretch down I 80.

I have said before it’s good to be in it which comes from the John Muir quote,” Most people are on the world, not in it.” My father became fatally ill at the end of July 2022. I drove the Ridgeline down I 80 from Chicago to his home near Philadelphia. Then I got a deeper appreciation for “being in it”. I had the privilege of participating in my dad’s death helping bathe, feed and medicate him for almost 10 days as he passed. Then the following two weeks I spent with my mother and brother sorting out life post Dad. It was good to be hands on and not on the other side of a window or on the phone. It was good to personally support and be supported by family. It really felt, “being in it’.

It seemed poetic that the last trip with the Ridgeline was the most……..
